    Exclamation DVD drive serious problems

    Hi

I am having serious problems with my dvd drive. I use windows XP as my operating system.

When I place a cd in the drive, no autorun occurs. Going to my computer, there is no dvd drive icon for either drive (basic or RW). I then go into device manager and it says that neither drive can be located. I follow their troubleshooting advice (for if u have removed hardware, which i havent) but nothing helpful is available there.

This seems to be a completely random occurence. The only thing I have performed on my computer recently is a disk defragmentation and Im not sure this would be a cause of this problem.

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks in advance

Does the BIOS detect these drives?

I would suggest opening the computer and removing the IDE cable from both drives and then reboot once without the drives connected.

Shut down and go in and connect the Secondary Master drive only. Boot and see if XP picks it up.

If it does try the same going back and connecting the Secondary slave drive as well.

If you are not familiar with working inside computers you might want to read this article on static issues:
