    memory clock or core clock?

i need to get a new video card, it has to be agp. ive come to the decision to buy a x800gto/ x1600pro. yes, i am short on money, so i have to spend less than $150. i have checked out these two video cards:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102002

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814241017

one has a core clock of 400mhz and a memory clock of 980 (the first one).
the second one has a core clock of 500 and a memory clock of 800...
i dont know which is better... memory clock or core clock?
can you explain these to me and tell me which is more important?

Core clock is the clock used by the GPU i.e. the graphics chip.

Memory clock is the clock used on the communication between the GPU and the memory chips.

Performance is reflected by both clocks.

If your system supports the SAPPHIRE 100131SL Radeon X800GTO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 I would recommend that. Note the requirement details:

Connection to the system power supply is required. The power supply should have a specialized 12V graphics card power connector
350-Watt power supply or greater recommended
Intel Pentium 4/III, AMD Athlon 64/K7/ Athlon XP
256 MB system memory or more for better performance

ty jephree.... your l33t. ill be fine with the sapphire card, but i have a question that doestn have anything to do with th memory or core clock speeds.. what is s video? i have never learned what that is... im assuming it has something to do with a tv... but i really dont know.

oh, btw i noticed that the sapphire has 256mb memory and the x1600pro has 512... is that REALLy important?

ha ha ... one more thing: i dont know how to overclock a computer... can you direct me to a good site to show me how?

    S Video: http://searchsmb.techtarget.com/sDef...930060,00.html

    Overclocking: http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...ock+a+computer

    You will notice the difference:

    256MB 256-bit GDDR3 OpenGL 2.0

    512MB 128-bit GDDR2 OpenGL

The BIT # is more important than the Memory #. The balance @ 256/256 is better than 512 @ 128.

Perhaps this thread will explain better: http://groups.google.com/group/alt.c...59a35aa9a15215

Also the GDDR3 and OpenGL 2.0 are Superior to the other.
