Horizontal white line/s on my monitor, Nvidia problem?
I have a GeForce Go 7400 in my Vaio laptop - XP Pro. Nearly a week ago, suddenly, a thin white line shot across the desktop, exactly midway. By evening there were two lines. Next day there were more. Right now, there is about 1/4" solid white line (which is actually transparent) which starts as soon as the power button is pressed.
I did a system restore, nothing, then contacted Sony chat online. The Vaio has a facility to fix drivers but it wasn't clickable. The fix Sony sent said it couldn't install, neither could the next fix. I tried to install them in safe mode but got that the machine was not recognised as a Vaio!!!
I bought it at CompUSA in Miami in April.
I live on a small island in the Caribbean where repair facilities are available but not very good. I have contacted CompUSA but they have not replied to emails or returned phone calls. Returning the machine to Sony would be a) prohibitively expensive and b) when I have had problems with other computers in the past, all of them with the single exception of Dell, have said that the guarantees are not valid since I bought the machine in the US and exported it.
I do hope you can help as the white lines are taking over

hey sorry to read this.... i think your computer may have "fried" this happen to a computer at work the screen went all green and then white line was in it as you stated static electricity had caused it because someone was inside the case ealier that day and hadnt "earthed" themselves...hmmm manufacters warranty is void?....hmm do you know anyone who lives in the states maybe send it to them and then get them to pass it on or is it a registerd export? hope you fix this prob

The Vaio people didn't think the machine had fried, but thought it was a video problem. I didn't have a green screen, I have no malfunction at all, other than this white line.

well what have they said....the laptop hasnt been acting up other than this has it? i do hope they give you a new one :P sorry i couldnt have been of service to you... the white line thing is new to me and im sorry again i couldnt help but i have only seen this once before and that was earlier today in my office hope u get it sorted
