Wireless card/router different makes
Hi all
I am still trying to find out the issue why i cant get my wireless to work.
It occured to me perhaps it is because i have a Linksys router but a Netgear card.
Might this be the case? or are they compatible?
Thanks

all wireless stuff should work no matter what make
have you got any security set up on the router?
-
Hi
No- i didnt actually know there was security on the router!?
I thought security would just be on my PC and the laptop im trying to connect to.
Where would the security on the router be located?
Thanks

on your laptop if you go to network connections you should have the wireless conection showing if you right click you should be able to veiw all the wireless connections available.
can you connect using wires?
-
yes i can connect with wires.
i have followed all the instructions and cant workout why my wireless doesnt work.
according to my laptop the signal strength is excellent- which surely means its connected!?
but when the browser is opened- i get the noemal error msg you would get if you clcked i.e. without being connected.
People keep saying to me "oh it will be a security setting"- but as far as im concerned the firewall is off so it cant be that.!
cheers

are you using the windows firewall? if your firewall is set to block all you will still get execelent strengh but not be able to connect
can you try Start >> Run >> CMD >> and type ipconfig then hit return and see what happens you should have something like
IP address 192.168.1.3
subnet address 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.1.1

oh... i just removed the card and did IPCONFIG again and it says "media disconnected"
what goin on!?

without the network card you won't get any response from ipconfig.
what firewall are you using?
what's the make and model of the router and what model is the wireless network card?
is the wireless card a PCI type?
can you try http://192.168.11.1/ from your PC it should bring up the routers home page where you can alter settings
