A while ago my CD drive stopped showing up in device manager/My Computer. So i took it into best buy and they replaced the CD Drive, but it still dosent work. Its a LapTop so i cant really take it apart too well. can anyone tell me how to fix it please?
Take it back to Best Buy and demand what you paid for.
That being said: If it does not show under the Device Manager: Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc
nor My Computer
Check the BIOS settings.
If all these show nothing then you have a bad drive or connection.
Thanks!
umm...how do i check BIOS?
Depends on the make and model of the laptop but generally right after you power on press the Delete key.
Or watch the screen for a BIOS Setup key: some use F2.
In the BIOS Setup you use the arrow keys to navigate. The Esc key to shift from menus.
All BIOS are different but somewhere you should find a list of detected drives.
If you have a problem finding this: what is the exact make and model of the laptop?
I found th BIOS thing but there isnt a list of Drives
ITs a Toshiba Satallite P35-S611
What is listed in the Boot Menu in the BIOS?
+Hard Disk
TOSHIBMK1031GAS
CD DRIVE
EXTERNAL DRIVE
SYSTEM BOOT
or something to that effect
So it does not list a specific CD drive?
It jsut says
CD-ROM/DVD DRIVE
but for the disk drive it lists TOSHIBAMK1031GAS
TOSHIBAMK1031GAS is your hard drive. The original DVD/CD drive was:

My suggestion is to take it back to Best Buy and get them to fix it. If it never worked since they changed it it is their problem. IMHO :O
Your computer is apparently not detecting the drive at any level. The connection could be bad or the drive could be bad or not compatible with your laptop.
Sorry I can't be more constructive.
