    Re: Pls Help!! Computer Reboots

    This is a "stand-alone" program. It will not boot into anything but itself. I posted to that other thread;
    "Any errors will be listed near the right side of the screen. There should be no errors."

    You appear to be "running" MemTest86 correctly.

    Are you running the latest chipset drivers for that board? (Intel Brookdale-G i845GL)

    The only update I could find (thus far) for XP Professional was the graphics drivers (#1) for that chipset. It can't hurt to try this as you can always "roll-back" to the previous driver.

    HI Dan
    Thanks for the web address...i updated my driver..but the it has gobbled up a little bit of more RAM of my comp.But speed of opening of few applications has increased e.g. windows media player etc.Earlier it use to take few seconds for it to open nowit opens fast.
    I'm using FREE RAM-XP PRO for my computer and it shows how much RAM is being used up...I have noticed a certain vague reading-
    FREE RAM= 49%
    LOAD = 42%
    Don't know where the rest of RAM is?(9%)
    Can u Help regarding that?
    Thanks

    I haven't seen one "RAM Program" do anything more than shuffle memory around needlessly. Then give you a display of how much it's recovered for you. (It probably used up that 9% manipulating things around.) I hope you didn't spend anything on it.

    If you want to know where your memory is really being used, open a Command Prompt window and type in

    mem/c

    You may have to scroll or maximize the window to see all the information.

    Little chunks of information are basically continually going in and out of your memory cache. The way it's handled is what's important. In the early days (Win3.1/95A) Windows sometimes needed tweaks to the system.ini file in regards to what you were doing with the system and it's memory settings. However, since Win98 was born into the world, Windows handles it's memory with efficiency. More so today with NTFS XP. There is really no need for other programs further manipulating memory, and in some cases actually making the system slower as a result of running it.

    Thanks Dan for reply
    No I never spent anything for getting the program....I will stop using the program.
    Well thanks for your advise regarding updating the drivers.......I upgraded my GRAPHICS driver from Intel's website and after that My comp never crashed...don't know whether the updating has any effect or it is just that i'm not running more applications at a time?
    Regarding Memtest i ran it and it never showed any problem in RAM..will again run it after few days.
    Thanks for Help DAN

    Glad to hear things are smoother now. Make sure you back up any working downloaded drivers in a safe place.
