hi all,

on and off for years i have had probs where my mouse cursor would freeze, only for a reboot to resolve.

A recent reinstall solved the prob for some time, yet recently the problem seems to have come back tenfold. Last night i was happily ebaying away when the mouse froze, but i could navigate using the keyboard. Using the keyboard only i found a few references on the web to the NVIDIA graphics card causing probs like my own, which made sense as i had just downloaded a Windows update for it the other day. Thought i would try a reboot to start with, once Windows loaded it advised it was trying to install new hardware, but was unsuccessful in downloading the driver. Decided (probably foolishly) to uninstall the NVIDIA driver from Add/Remove programs. Restarted my PC. No effect, decided to do a system restore.

Did not resolve at all, in fact when restarting my PC it begins to load Windows before blacking out and restarting itself again. I can start in Safe Mode, and get to the point of entering my password. The the Genuine Microsoft Windows advantage message pops up telling me i may be a victim of software counterfeiting, and says and i can resolve or deal with later. However, am unable to use the keyboard to navigate between the two choices, leaving me stuck. I know this message is something you can normally turn off - having done so a few days ago - but my system restore has changed it back so it always notifies me and thus always prevents me getting into windows.

I have tried my housemates mouse which works fine for him but not me.

Any suggestions as to how i can resolve the above!?

many thanks!
