Won't Recognize CDs
I recently bought an I/O Magic 52x24x52 Internal CD-ReWritable Drive to replace my old one, which barely ever worked anymore. So, I uninstalled any CD-ROM/CD-RW Drives from my computer, turned my computer off, manually removed them, inserted my new one, attached it to where my old one was attached, restarted my computer, and it was recognized. So I ejected it and put the CD-R Disc that came in the box in, XP detected it and the AutoRun box came up, so I attempted to burn a one-song Audio CD using Nero Express (6.3.5.1 I think, Ultimate Edition), but it failed. It said Power Calibration Error. Since then, every CD, no matter the content or lack-there-of, has not been recognized. The light goes on and stays on for maybe 15 seconds, then goes off and nothing happens. I've uninstalled/reinstalled it many times, also I've moved the IDE cable around and removed my other unneeded hard drive and floppy drive, still, nothing. Any ideas, masters of... ideas?

Well, it's come to the point that I really need this drive, or any drive, to work, to burn CDs. I'm guessing someone looked somewhere or something and can't find anything, but even if that is the case, can you let me know what's happening? Just ASAP is all. Please and thank you.

hm, did you buy a refurbished drive or a brand new one?

Brand Spankin' New from Staples.

Just as an experiment you could delete nero and see if the xp wizard will work for you.
I have seen conflicts with the two before but unfortunatley dont recall any solutions other than abandoning nero.
Did you install the drive with Nero installed?
Maybe that caused issues? Maybe install the drive with no software other than xp, then maybe try nero again?
just random ideas. Good luck!

Okie dokie, I'll try, but still, if anyone has any other solutions, please, let me know.

Ok well my drive, after hours of trying, still won't recognize any CDs at all. I did your ideas, but to no avail. I'm really frustrated. Could it be anything with the IDE cable? Dunno, just asking. This is annoying stuff.

Did you get this error with the old one that barely worked?
If your comp is seeing the drive I would think the cable is fine.
I found these threads from a google group search:

2.

The thing is, it won't recognize any CD at all. Blank CDs (Staples/Memorex/Generic), Roxio Easy CD Creator's CD, Diablo II Expansion, Starcraft, Warcraft III, Windows XP Disc, OfficeXP Disc, SimsOnline, Mall Tycoon 2, PC-Fax Modem CD, Windows 98SE CD, nothing! I'mma keep researching this, but some more expert help would be much appreciated. P.S. this stuff happened with my other drives, too, just they recognized some CDs sometimes, but barely.

Have you tried a different IDE Cable? If not try swapping the IDE cable for the CD round with your Hard Drives cable. This is not my area of expertise but it is worth a try
