    Question File Transfer

My old computer will not start up. So now I have a new computer and would like to get the files off my old hard drive on to my new one. Is there a fairly simple way to do this?

    Hi and welcome to D-A-L

do you feel confident taking the hard drive out of your PC and putting it as a slave in the new PC?

by opening the case you may invalidate any warranty

on the back of the hard drive should be some jumpers

one has to be set as master (hard drive in the PC) and the other as slave (the one with files you wish to transfer from)

    the IDE cable

So then the new computer will then recognize the old hard drive and I can copy from one drive to the other?

if your new PCs hard drive is set to master and you set the other hard drive to slave it should recognise it. Your main hard drive will be C drive and the other dive will get the next letter available, but transfering files etc should be ok

but as I said opening the case you may invalidate any warranty
