    Volume Control Icon

    Hello,

Hope this is the right area.

The little speaker icon on task bar of desktop, when I open it and slide
bar up, it comes all the way back down again so I can't get any sound.

I've also tried going in to the sound and audio device properties, the
device slider bar is on low, when I adjust slider to where I want, it moves
to low again, same thing from start, control panel, sounds and audio.

The other thing is when I do move slider up, large green letters saying
volume appear briefly on my desktop, I want to stop this.

Sound works fine if I can get my slider bar to stay up.

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware and or software?

If this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

    Hello Jephree,

No it's not a new problem, it come and goes, so system restore won't help

It's a setting I'm sure but for the life of me I can't think what.

Everything works just fine if I could get the volume control slider bar to remain where I put it.

I'm a little confused on something, where the litle icons at bottom right hand corner area of the desk top are, is that know as the system tray area or task bar area.

The first thing to ask is whether you've installed any new audio player or anything like that. If so, you may be able to solve the problem by going into that and changing the settings.

If it's not that, I don't know what to suggest, but I'm sure someone will.

    Hello,

I think I might have discovered the cause but not a fix.

I've been visting this site a lot, ogrish .com and I think some how it disables sounds, ( not mute ).

The reason I think this is because I got my sound working for a while by just fiddling for the last couple of hours, I then went to the above site and bang went my sound or am I being daft?

That is the System Tray. It can be customized via Right clicking any empty area of the Task Bar then click Properties > Task Bar > Notification Area > Customize

Although the Volume icon is there I am not sure how that would affect the volume settings.

You can clear or reset that area as follows:

I have searched this issue thru my search sites and have found no precedent yet.

I also look at ogrish occasionally Anyway I have no issue with that site in particular.

    Curious similarity (is this you?):
