    Computer Spike/Lag

Yeah, so i got a new computer, and the computer doesnt spike, but it stalls, and if anyone plays a game called counter-strike, they would know what i mean when i say this: The screen skips, and then it skips, it happens randomly and sometimes doesnt do it for 2 minutes or so but then it will. And i dont really notice it when im just browsing windows, but i do when im playing counter-strike. And i know its not the game because ive been palying this game for about 5 years, and i know basicly all the commands to stop lag, and all that, and the error that comes up it cl_entitypacket it does it alot and its really annoying, i stared at the proccesses for the CPU jumps, but only the system idle and explorer and taksmng are the ones that get little higher, and i mean just 1-3 cpu usage.
anyone help? anyone know any programs to let me know whats causing this or to look for even deeper cpu jumps, cause that command i get in the game means your COMPUTER is lagging, not the game. so any help is possible. and yes i have tried reinstalling the game

    Just a quick search:

    http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...et&sa=N&tab=gw

What about your ISP? Could that be the issue?

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

What is the Description of those errors?

Right click the line and choose Properties.

You can also choose Action and create/ edit a Log File.

Also what about your ISP connection?

Te isp wouldnt be thr problem, because my ld computer did fine.

The Norton AntiVirus Client service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).

The Infrared Monitor service depends on the Terminal Services service which failed to start because of the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Searching the cl_entitypacket error I found most finds indicating an ISP issue although some mentioned graphics card overheating.

Also perhaps run without Norton for a test. You could try AVG Free: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

The Infrared Monitor service: Is this something that you use or need? Is this a wireless setup?

You could test other software interference by temporarily disabling startups in msconfig:
    start/run msconfig | Startup

Did this computer ever play these games OK or was this always a problem?
