    Unhappy wont start

hi, I bought a new tower system about 4 weeks ago working great until the other day I switched it on and it got stuck on the loading page ( the page with the windows xp logo and the three blue squares in the little window). I turned it off and restarted it , I get a page of text with options to start in safe mode, start with last known good config and start windows normally. No matter what I do it ends up on the same loading screen and the usual sound of the h/d stops after about 5 secs

what software have you put on?

I'd be very careful what you do if the PC is new and under guarantee

    Hello Brain Damage,

    Why should Normal be carefull?

A PC is designed to have software installed on it new or old, guartantee or not.

If you mean opening and going inside case it's fair comment and warning and Normal might run the risk of voiding his waranty.

However in recent years two such large resellers of PCs tried to weedle their way out of fufiling the terms of guarantees because in both cases the owners had opened their PCs so it was argued voided their guarantees.

The companies failed in their arguments and in these two cases the owners had opened to fix suspected dislodged graphics card and loose memory modules.

As it happened MBs had failed with both PC and as part of the judgement it was reasoned PCs are sold or their upgradability and access, you can't tempt on one hand and clobber with the other.

It's a bit like changing a fuse on a new iron and then being told your guarantee is void for doing so,---I don't think so.

A bit like the beterment clauses of recent years from insurances companies and I and others fought tooth and nail with them on behalf of others over this nasty practice which has now stopped.

    Hello Normal,

BD is correct be carefull what you do, how experianced are you with PCs from a repairing point of veiw.

Meanwhile boot into safe mode turn off your antivirus and your firewall and reboot.

I suspect however it's nothing more serious then a faulty hard drive that might need replacing, we'll see.

What type of Recovery CD did they supply?

But the basic reply is that with a new computer under warranty these problems are not yours but theirs:

    Yes thats a point Jephree,

If Normal's HD is not faulty it might be his OS has become corrupted.

If he has his XP CD could he not boot off of that and run a repair installation.
