    computer restarts/shuts down

    i built a computer:

    amd athalon 64 3700+
    1gb[2sticks] cosair value RAM ddr400(pc3200)
    ati radeon 9800
    400 watt 12v, 17a psu
    asus a8v motherboard
    200gb seagate hard drive

when i try to play certian games, the computer screen turns black and it will restart after several seconds

i tried re-installing my drivers for my mobo and gfx card
    i tried a different 19a psu
i tried 1 stick of my RAM
i tried to change resolution for the games i played

teh only game i can play is cs 1.6
if i try anything higher (i.e. bf1942, bfv, rise of nations) my computer screen goes black and restarts...

i cant play games... except cs ....
i think the problem is with the motherboard... i went to asus.com and looked for better drivers for the a8v... but they didnt have any...
    see, i upgraded from a amd 1.4ghz socket a, 1gh sdram new psu and a a7v mobo
so, i got 4 new things:
    a8v, RAM, psu, and cpu

previously, my old computer worked fine... and then i got the new things and now it wont work
    help me!

What version of DirectX do you have?

    start/Run/ dxdiag

    The latest 9.0c is here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Also what is listed under the Display tab under Driver?

Are you sure that you have the latest BIOS?

    http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

    Choose > Motherboard > 939 > A8V

i went to the support.asus.com and looked for some 4 in 1 drivers for my mobo... but i guess i havent looked for teh latet bios...
directx 9 is what i have...

on support.asus.com you cant cut and paste url right... so you have to search for products then mobo... a8v.... etc.

OK ... it appears that you have the latest drivers for everything (which you already knew)

So onto another tack ... when you say: "the computer screen turns black and it will restart after several seconds"

Are you saying that the monitor goes black and then returns or that the computer shuts down?

If the screen goes black and then returns are you still in the game?

In other words is this a blackout of the game on screen or is the computer crashing?

You need this tool as well as the BIOS:

AFUDOS V2.19, AMI BIOS update tool.

    What is your current BIOS?

How do I check the BIOS version?
