If I press F1 Ignore the PC goes into a black screen and freezes - is there a way to save it or it the HD already dead?

I really appreciate if you can help me!

Ok, first a couple of things:

can you turn off SMART in Bios?
Depending on the BIOS on the board, it will either be easy to disable the SMART parameter or not. If you can get me the BIOS maker (Award, AMI, Phoenix, etc.) or the actually manufacturer and model of the board we can go from there.

    What OS?
If its 9x or ME than its not a problem, just boot via floppy or bootable CDRom and attempt to repair the drive that way.
If the OS is Win2k, NT, or XP, you will need to slave the drive to another like OS'd HDD and use Component manager to see if you can restore the partition.

If you can get me those two peices of info I can help ya get started. Also, you may want to post your question to the General Hardware Failure forum to get a faster response.

    Thanks for using D-A-L!!

    1. Remove your hard disk from PC and put it in an external USB hard disk case.
    2. Connect the USB hard disk case to another PC running Windows XP.
    3. The USB hard disk case will be shown as an external drive inside "My Computer" of another PC.
    4. Locate the file you want to copy and copy the same to the local drive of another PC.
    5. Not all files could be copied. Take the trial and error approach.
    6. Good luck!
