Monitor Problems please help
Hi, we have just moved our computer and when we reconnected it the monitor has come up with three blocks of colour, kind of like a flag, it won't do anything. has it blown a tube???
Before this the computer kept freezing and crashing, we had to turn it off at the wall to restart it. We are running 98, AVg and virus scan is fine. This fault only developed when we had to move the computer and when we plugged it in this happened. Now though we can't see anything, so please help us with the monitor first,
thanks.

Are you sure the signal cable connector is on properly? (I have seen some installed "backwards". You wouldn't think it possible as the connector is shaped like a long "D", but it will go on reversed.) This can mess up the colours.
Also ensure there are no bent pins in the connector.
It's also possible an internal connection (in the monitor) has come loose during the move. If you open the monitor to inspect things, be VERY CAREFUL inside as stored voltages can knock you across the room.

ok, i had a look at the pins and connections, i pulled them all out and reconnected them, it is still showing the two flags. I am a bit scared of opening it up. Can you think of anything else or is it just knackered?
thanks

Hello Lisa,
Dan is correct, however before you scrap it, is it posible to plug it in to an other PC, I know it's a pain and the effort involved but it might me worth doing so.
It does sound like that in the move something has been damaged, why simply moving a moniter would do this is any one's guess.
Word of caution, if you are not sure how do open up a moniter or sure what you're doing, DO NOT DO SO, THE DISCHARGES CAN KILL
