    Re: Critical BSOD errors!

For the sake of testing do you have another Graphics Card you can try?

Most of those BIOS updates deal with newer model graphics cards.

Maybe you do need to upgrade your BIOS to handle your card.

More than one of those dumps indicate your Graphics Device.

Actually, I was basically "jipped" when I bought this 9550 a year ago. As you know, ATI and Nvidia supply the chipsets to companies such as Acer, XFX, and eVGA so they can create the actual card. Well, I've seen pictures of my alleged card and it is supposedly red and has a nice cooler on top. Mine is green, has no cooler, and there is absolutely no information about the manufacturer, on the box or the card. Thus, the card has begun overheating and the only way I can avoid video card overheat BSODs is by keeping the side case open.

I've saved enough money for an XFX GeForce 6600GT 128MB DDR3 AGP 8x (I've been dreaming of a video card upgrade long enough) but it's my luck that the AGP variant is out of stock at TigerDirect.ca. However, I'd be more than willing to buy the eVGA version instead. My computer came with a Radeon 9200 128MB PCI already installed. That found its way out of my computer because it just plain broke down. I still have it but I doubt a damaged video card will do any good at the moment. Even if I were to put it back in, it wouldn't help since it's much older than the 9550 anyways. But yeah, at least one of those dumps points out a video driver. The others I think are RAM, but you know much more than me, hence me posting here

I really do want to put back my RAM though, put it in Slot 4 perhaps. Sigh...I'm stuck at an impasse here. On one hand, I do not want to see another BSOD, on the other hand I want back the performance I paid for

Thank you, I'll try it out now.

BTW, I've set my paging filesize to a "system managed" size. It's at 766MB since I have only have a single 512 stick. I do remember an instance where the system set it to 3072 with the full 1024MB installed. How much would you recommend for a gig of RAM?

I always use System Manage Size.

For troubleshooting Hard Drive problems it is often advised to set to No Page File.

Page File uses the Hard Drive to assist the RAM.

Also as to your graphics card issues and concerns ... this looks more and more like your problem.

What is listed under the Device Manager | Display adapters?

    Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc

I put back the new RAM, this time in Slot 4. The paging file is now at 1534MB, system managed. I also ran the BIOS update and it updated successfully. However, I still get a short beep when I turn on the computer. Is that a problem because it just started today after I ran Memtest and removed one of the RAM modules.

PS. The serial numbers for my RAM sticks differ from one another. Is that a problem as well? Also, my FSB:RAM ratio is 3:4. I've heard it should be 1:1

Radeon 9550 and Radeon 9550 Secondary.

No problems detected, no IRQ conflicts, all drivers verified, etc.

I would try this scan/app/tool: Everest Home Edition.

The old free version should be available here: http://www.oldversion.com/ listed under utilities.

After installed your RAM will show in detail under: Motherboard | SPD

Also it may give a clearer picture of your graphics card under: Display | GPU

Jephree - my computer is dead.

After I installed the new BIOS, I rebooted and pressed F2. I changed my RAM speed from 266 to 333mhz and changed the clock latency from 2.0 to 3.0. When I turn on my computer, nothing works. The monitor doesn't turn on and judging by the fact that the Windows start music doesn't play, my computer doens't even do anything. The BIOS is probably at bad settings right now and it needs to be reset.
