    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: bfacd1cc, The address that the exception occurred at
    Arg3: b9baeae4, Trap Frame
    Arg4: 00000000

Now just take a look at that. I'm going to kill that pig and smash this computer.

You should definitely demand your money back.

    Same old error: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem.

    0xC0000005: STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION
    A memory access violation occurred.

Anything different about what you were doing? Were you able to restart immediately?

Yes. I immediately went back into Battlefront II. That first crash was in the main menu when I was selecting a map list. After restarting, I created a map list, went into the game and crashed in the first minute. Then I went back into Battlefront II and played online for over an hour with no crashes. *Sigh*

It's safe to rule out heat. How can a computer crash within the first minute of operation?

I want to buy a new motherboard, but not until I am 100% certain it will solve my problems and have gotten my money back! All week my father has driven me to Staples and back. That technician can go back to being a janitor in a library.

It is hard to pinpoint the hardware issue without being able to test each component.

Especially the RAM; Graphics Card; and CPU. If you can absolutely say that these components are OK then you can probably say the motherboard is having problems.

But mostly a motherboard with problems will not even boot the BIOS.

As you have worked thru the RAM and Graphics Card I would try a different CPU (if possible).

I don't see how this can be software alone. Did you tell the tech guy about all the dumps and everything that you have tried? Have you asked about hardware issues? Can you see if he has a spare CPU to test?

BTW: I once met a very smart janitor in a library. He read all night for years and years. He just had no other ambition.

    Nice janitor story, heh.

I put up two fresh dumps, debugged and in a text document on my desktop. I also had another text document where I explained everything about the crashes and the fact that I changed my video card and all. When I hooked up the computer, I took a look at the times that these 3 files were accessed; at 4-second intervals. I'm sure he read through them, right...

RAM - tested with Memtest successfully. Computer still crashed when either one of them was in there, new and old one. The old stick never showed any signs of damage or defection. New stick is..well, new. I also cleaned the gold-plated connectors with an eraser.

Graphics card - self-explanatory; upgraded to pure sexiness

CPU - Hmm, could it be that the processor stops...processing within a minute of games? And when I turn on a game, then shut off the computer and turn it on the next day, getting a dump that I would've gotten if I had played a little longer, could that be CPU?

Motherboard - Hmm (I wish it really was the mobo) But I have read instances where mobos do these sorts of things but boot normally. Remember the oddities that would happen, such as the computer no longer turning on or XP blue screening before it loads? That would all be blamed at the mobo.

Hard drive - Works fine; I could do ANYTHING except play games and I wouldn't crash at all. Scanned and diagnosed lots of times.

PSU - Well, it is new and I think the technician did a power test. Or maybe one of the computer associates lied on the phone...

Heat - no, I would get a frostbite if I stuck my head in there. Cool as a...cooling...tank...?

Software such as drivers - that's what that "genius" claimed. Pfft.

Dummy should've at least checked all my IDE cables! But then again, problems there should cause universal crashes, not just game-related ones.

What anti virus are you using? What firewall?

As a test go to start/run msconfig | startup

Uncheck everything and reboot and try to play.

Hmm I haven't crashed now. The only times I crashed were the two early ones that happened as soon as I turned on a game when I brought the computer home. I've played Battlefront II and NHL 06 online so far.

BTW, unchecking everything in msconfig? :O!

I'm using Windows Firewall and an always-updated AVG Free.

There is nothing in msconfig startup that XP needs to start.

Everything listed there has been added by 3rd party software.

Unchecking is a test mode. You can always recheck.

The only 2 items that I have starting are AVG and my Firewall (Sygate).

This is just a test to see if some software is triggering your issues.

Ok, I disabled all startup items, save A/V, Creative sound control panel, NeroCheck, and Nvcpl (Nvidia display panel)

I've also noticed that BSOD crashes completely screw up my drive speeds. For example, when I look at the settings through Nero, my CD-RW is reading at 40x or 24x instead of 52x and my DVD drive is reading at 2x instead of 16x. I clicked the box to "restore settings at startup" but even manually changing the speeds doesn't work. It pisses me off and it started with the BSODs.
