Critical BSOD errors!

Re: Critical BSOD errors!
I played Knights of the Old Republic II for no more than 3 minutes. The game just froze but I was able to use CTRL+ALT+DEL to pull up the task manager. However task manager wouldn't quit the game and the computer just restarted by itself. Then the monitor just went to standby and nothing worked until I pressed the restart button. Then when the RAM check came, I got a message about some sort of POST failure and only had the option of going to the BIOS. I loaded optimal settings, made the default changes and rebooted again. However, there was no dump or error message from the restart.
Is the brand new PSU giving out on me? Have I been jipped?

I wish had had something positive to say
But I don't know. Short of the trial and error of changing out every piece of hardware I don't know what else to suggest.
Perhaps it is the board. Are you up to reloading the BIOS again? The only other thing that keeps popping up in my searches is a CPU over-heating.

System is completely dead now. Earlier today I tried to reinstall my sound software but Driver Cleaner ruined everything! Traces of the software were stuck on my computer and could not be deleted! On top of that, my system restore mysteriously deleted EVERY SINGLE restore point I had. Yesterday they were all present and I haven't run out of disk space. On top of THAT, when I select system restore, the program won't even turn on! This coincides with the fact that everytime I download something relatively large (10+MB), the download bar gets stuck at 99%. The downloaded program downloads successfully but the download bar just stays there until I do something about it or wait for it.
Un-friggin'-believable! What's next? Bomb in my CD-ROM?

Everytime I try to run system restore, a process named rstrui.exe forms in my task manager process list. System restore refuses to run! I could run dozens of these rstrui.exe processes! What the heck is going on???

I would suggest backing up any valuable data to removable discs then Clean Installing XP.
I still think that this is a hardware issue but the Clean Install would rule out software issues.
-
rstrui.exe is the system restore execute file

I was able to run system restore through safe mode with command prompt. The attempt resulted in the system restore just freezing in the middle of restoration. I started up the computer normally and got a notification that I should either undo or use another restore. I restored to a different time (all I can do is choose from May 8th anyways).
*Sigh* My father has a DVD burner that he doesn't use. I'll see if I can pop that in, burn all my files to DVDs and reformat.
I just feel like I'll be back to "position zero" even after that. Everything done has ended up either wasting money or time, even though I wanted that new video card. The thing is, when can I start actually using it inbetween BSODs?

I only see two untested suspects: the PSU or the Motherboard.
This is assuming that the CPU is not over-heating.
If you have to replace the motherboard you are going to have to Clean Install XP anyway.
Sorry again I can think of nothing more positive

Well I managed to fix the Creative software perfectly using cunning and perseverance.
I'd like to waive the format option, please.
Now I'm wondering about the PSU. Could it be the wrong type for my computer?
I just realized I've been calling my PSU "RetailStar" whereas the name is Retail Plus. My bad.

Sorry for the long link, but this is where I bought it from. Is it compatible with my system?

Does Everest have a temperature monitor? I highly doubt an overheat since I have a new chassis fan, a powerful video card and an open case anyways, but I'll give it a shot.
