    Try removing the sound card.

Ok I removed it. I also put the RAM to Slot 3 in dual channel mode since it can't be RAM causing this.

    *Sigh* Pray for me Jephree

I also downloaded and ran 3DMark06. I didn't really understand it though, my FPS was averaging at 1 during the tests. Didn't get a BSOD though, so video and RAM can't be the problem.

A lot of those dumps were hinting at Audio Drivers as you know.

I've never seen a Sound Card create such havoc but is it any different without it?

I don't know. At my lunch break now, I'll test some things.

The thing is, my sound card only has one set of upgraded drivers and they're from August 1st, 2005!

If I don't see a crash, should I remove everything Creative-related with Driver Cleaner and reinstall the sound card drivers using the CD? This sound card has had problems before, I've had instances where I've had to reinstall the updated drivers several times due to sound suddenly disappearing from one or more speakers. Speakers are brand new too, Logitech X-530 5.1 with Subwoofer.

But in case I do get a BSOD, what shall I do?

Like which ones? portcls.sys for sure, but what about ntoskrnl.exe and win32k.sys?

This is beautiful. I ran Most Wanted and after about 2 minutes of a police chase, the game just froze up. The game just completely froze and moved forward one frame in 30 seconds. I pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL and before the desktop appeared, a BSOD hit me, this time for my Nvidia display drivers, nv4_disp.dll:

    KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
    happening.
    Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: bfa60e3f, The address that the exception occurred at

Things are getting worse as each day goes by. I put the sound card back in since I did crash even when it was out and reinstalled the Creative software and drivers.

I played Battlefront II for no more than one minute. The game just froze up and the sound was just completely messed up, looping itself, "DRRRRRRRR", etc. The screen just froze right there in the middle of battle and no keyboard shortcuts worked. I had to press the restart button on my computer.

Windows Defender Beta 2 was also screaming something in the Event Viewer, there was a warning there:

Windows Defender Real-Time Protection agent has detected spyware or other potentially unwanted software.

But when I run XoftSpy, nothing turns up. However, P17 is my sound card driver, isn't it?

Honest opinion, should I just throw this computer out and shoot myself? I'm tired of troubleshooting a computer that has absolutely NO reason to DO THIS.

Well the crashes seem to have changed ever since I took out my sound card. When I put it back in after today's crash, I put it into another PCI slot. These new crashes are like this. Now when I'm playing, the screen just freezes and whatever sound was playing at that moment just loops, resulting in a loud and annoying "DRRRRRRRRRRR" sound. Then I CTRL+ALT+DEL and it brings up a BSOD. This one was another DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and it referred to P17.sys:

I post this link from a search as it parallels many of your dumps:

    http://www.experts-exchange.com/Oper..._21649430.html

(edit: sorry ... link gets cut off re: subscription. I will repost the thread in a bit).

See if you can pull it up from the third link down in this Google search:

Windows XP: getting BSOD's and constant reboots

    http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...-8&q=P17%2Esys

Unfortunately it leads down the same roads: RAM; Graphics Card; Sound Card; etc.

Have you been monitoring your CPU temp? (with Everest)?

Also have you run a diagnostic on your hard drive?

Also have you reinstalled XP during this process?

    Sorry I can't remember
