Ok, I have XP Home, 512 ram, Athlong 2600xp, ect. I don't really think specs are all that important.
This is what happend. I turn on my computer and everything seems to be loading properly. I get to the login screen but it just stops on the blue screen. No login or anything. So hmmm I say. I reboot the comp manualy and the proper sounds are heard... fans and what not... but the screens are black (I think the comp was set to check the floppy and I haven't heard that). The moniters don't even indicate that they are plugged in. I felt the CPU and it was hot. I don't know if that shows that the CPU didn't fry or what. Anyways, no login, no boot screen, just sickening black screens. Some advice would be much appreciated.![]()
Are you using two monitors?
As of now you get no BIOS data? No "No Signal" message? The monitor/s light/s is/are Amber or is there no power to the monitor/s??
If you are using multiple monitors remove one. Basically remove everything but the RAM; CPU; and graphics card.
Do you get any signal at that point?
Yes, two moniters, no signal.. the lights are blinking.
No BIOS info
I did try removing one moniter. No luck.
I will go remove all that stuff and see if it works.
I just did what you said. Removed all uneeded hardware. No luck. I did notice that the little red light that indicates CPU usage or memory usage (I'm not sure) is unlit. It doesn't turn on like it use to when I booted up.
I really want to play the GRAW demo. ARG!
Is this an LED on the motherboard? Or on the case?Originally Posted by Stealth
This all went from working fine to the present condition overnight?
It would appear as a Power Supply if the board is not getting power but you say the fans et al are working?
Try removing the RAM and booting. Do you get any beeps from the case speaker?
The more detail that you can think of from when everything was fine to the present condition might be useful.
The red LED light on case doesn't come on. I don't know if that indicates memory usage or CPU usage. I will look for a LED on the motherboard.
Everything was super last night. No problems.
Fans are all working and the CPU appears to be producing heat.
All that happened is one night I was using it. No problems. Then I go to use it last night and it boots up as normal then freezes when It gets to the blue screen. This happened the first and only time. The rest of my boot attemts all resulted in:
1. Blank, , unnattached moniters.
2. No light on the red LED.
3. Fans work.
4. I just dealt with a problem with my PS and I got a new 400W one. It is new enough so I would doubt it's failure.
5. I think the BIOS was set up to check the floppy drive when it booted up and I am not hearing that sound.
hello.... anyone still there?
I would suspect some type of power problem. If you are not getting a case LED or floppy power.
What problem did you deal with by installing the new PSU?
Were things working OK with that new PSU?
Have you rechecked all of your internal connections?
Perhaps try clearing the CMOS: unplug the machine and remove the motherboard battery. If there is a 3 pin jumper next to the battery perhaps labeled JBAT then change the jumper from 1&2 to 2&3. Wait 5 minutes then reset the jumper to 1&2 and replace the battery.
The old PSU was giving me crashing problems. The comp would freeze when I did anything power intensive.
Things have been great with the new PSU until now.
I have not checked the internal connections very closely (going to do that now).
