Usb 1 Or 2
Hi All,
Not sure if this is correct forum. However, i would appreciate some help on my USB definition.
The problem is this:
i am convinced i only have USB 1 despite the system info here: - hence the following problems 1 & 2.
HID-compliant device
Lexmark 5200 Series USBPRINT\LEXMARK_5200_SERIES\7&22108F0&0&USB001

VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller
1. ive had printer problems for awhile (all in an earlier post) ie. winxp wont start while printer plugged in. Note:
USBPRINT\LEXMARK_5200_SERIES\7&22108F0&0&USB001
2. External USB modem delays startup. ie. extract the usb plug and it starts immediately.
I have 6 USB ports but the above shows 5 + Modem and Printer = 7
Am i right?
I recently printed out the Futuremark SystemInfo Explorer.
USB Devices show: all above usb controllers driver date 7-1-2001 dvr version 5.1.2600.
The VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller & VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller r just listed under PCI Devices.
I have been to this site:
http://www.usbman.com/USB%202%20News.htm
Plz read the VIA USB 2.0 section. What should i dwnld from the list to enable USB2??
Incidentally, the VIA mobo is fairly new so i do have the CD supplied. (so y isnt it USB 2 already?)
the printer port is certainly usb 1 according to Belarc.
Any other details required plz let me know.
Is it a simple driver update? Thanx all.

Just to verify: all your USB ports are on the motherboard?
In other words you are not using a USB PCI card. Is this correct?
If so the USB 1 or 2 is set by your motherboard. What is the exact make and model?
This scan should show it if you don't know:

USB 2 devices are generally backwards compatible to USB 1 but of course will only run at that slower speed.
Again this is set by the motherboard unless you've added a USB 2 PCI card onto a USB 1 motherboard.
