    HP Pavillion power issue

I have a HP Pavillion which after switching off would not switch on again. The green light at the power supply unit just flashes. I've jumped the pis on teh connector at the board and the computer and all fans work. You can switch it on and off again normally even after you remove the jumper wire. However if you remve the plug from the mains after switching off it wont run again untill you jump the pins.
No new hardware has been installed.

    Any ideas??

    Regards

    Dave

What is the Pavilion model? How old is it? Perhaps a failing PSU; maybe the board battery (tho not likely).

What jumper are you resetting? What jumper wire?

Why do you remove the plug from the mains?

Thanks for the reply It's a a400 bought from comet 18 months ago, if you look at the plug connected to the board from the PSU I jump the 4th & 5th wires from the bottom on the right hand side (clip on right) that seems to start the PC I can then remove the wire used to jump these connections. The pc will start every time after that provided it is left plugged in to the mains. We never leave any electrical items plugged in overnight.

    regards

In that case I would suspect the battery. Whenever you unplug the mains you are using (draining) the battery.

This battery is the only way your board has of remembering settings etc.

It is a cheap enough part to at least try a new one if only to clear it as a possible source of your problem.
