    K8M800-M7A mobo won't boot

    Hello all,
I've just bought a K8M800-M7A and it won't boot up. It doesn't even get as far as POSTing.

I've never seen a MB fail quite like this one. It "powers up" meaning the fans spin, the power and HDD LED lights come on and the DVD access LED comes on. That's as far as it goes though. Nothing displays to the screen, no beeps from the speaker. Also the HDD and DVD LEDs never go off even though there is no disk activity. Hitting the reset button doesn't appear to do anything. Holding the power switch down for ~5 seconds will cause the MB's power LED to go off, but everything else stays powered up - fans, HDD/DVD LEDs, etc.

I've got the system stripped down as much as I can. There are no cards inserted in the MB, there is just the power supply, MB, memory, and the hard drive (MB has on-board video).

A different MB with the same memory/disk/power supply works fine. I've also swapped the power supply and memory with known good items. I've reset the BIOS, reseated the memory, CPU. I've also tried remounting the MB and running it unmounted. I've also tried using an external video card (known good). And pretty much tried all combinations of these things. Nothing's made any difference.

I think the answer is "send it back", but does anybody have any other ideas before I call up the company?

    Thanks everyone.

If the CPU is good and compatible you should at least get beeps.

As you appear to know what you are doing I can only second: "Send it back"

I should have mentioned it is a MB/CPU bundle, so the CPU is compatible - good is another story Thanks for the confirmation.
