I have a medion 8088 system running Phoenix Award Bios. In the control panel it tells me my SiS Accelerated Graphics Port is not installed correctly. Here is the windows message:
"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."
I have been to the SiS website and downloaded their drivers. When I try to install them I either get an "access denied" message or, if I do succeed, the machine has a critical system failure on reboot.
The SiS site has a diagnostic tool to help with identifyin the chipset. When I run it I'm told to contact the Bios writer, Americal Megatrends. On their website they charge $30 for a Bios which I'm not sure will even solve my problem.
Please can you offer me some advice on how to solve this issue?
Best regards.
When I try to install the SiS 121 drivers I get an error message saying:
"error to find device"

Hello, and Welcome to DAL.
"... running Phoenix Award Bios"
then;
"... to contact the Bios writer, Americal Megatrends"
These are two different animals. What does your POST screen say on boot up?
Is your display/graphics adapter "onboard", or a seperate add in card?

I contacted the Bios maker yesterday by email. They told me that as the computer does not hang on start up, but only when it get's to loading Windows, then the problem was not with their Bios. There are no beeps on start up. I get the xp loading screen for about 20 seconds then the critical failure happens. It's as if Windows is the one with the problem.
So I phoned Microsoft. They told me that as the version of xp home that I have is an OEM and the computer manufacturer, Medion, may have made changed to it so I must contact them instead. I called Medion who had me reinstall Intel chip drivers. But this didn't help the problem.
Best regards,
can you get Windows XP into safemode? If so, remove the display adapter and then try to reinstall the drivers.

The POST flashes by so quickly I don't get a chance to read it. The graphics card is a Radeon 850xt.
I think I've solved the problems. I reformatted the C:\ drive and reinstalled everything from the begining. There doesn't seen to be any conflict now with the AGP.
Thank you all for your kind help.
