    CD/DVD player??????????

    Hi folks,
Pretty much computer illiterate here, so please bare with me!
My laptop is a Packard Bell EasyNote, which I've had from new. Up until now, it's been pretty much trouble free. But, now my CD/DVD won't do anything i.e. play either CD's or DVD's. And I think, thats somehow it's drive letter has changed? I'm sure it used to be "D" drive, now it's become "Q"??? I've tried a system restor, started in Safe Mode, and run all the usual anti-Spy ware stuff etc. But, to no avail.
When you initiallly, insert a CD/DVD in the drive it does seem to try and spin-up. But then stops. After looking at the hardware properties, it says the the hardware is functioning properly.

If anyone can help here, I'd be most grateful

    Dave

What is the Operating System? If XP go to the Device Manager Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc

Click the (+) next to DVD/CD drives then right click on the drive and choose uninstall and then reboot.

XP will re-detect the drive and reinstall it's drivers.

    Hi,
Thanks for that. But, unfortunately it still won't play a CD. I did try late last night, after my posting to try and play a DVD, which it does quite happily play. Normally, if I put a CD into the drive, and click browse. I'm able to see the various information contained on the CD, but currently I don't see anything at all. It just seems to defult, to list the hard drive, etc etc.
If someone can help me with this, as I really do need to transfer some photographic images from my laptop onto CD.

    Yours Hopefully

    Dave

    Unfortunately I see this post:
Replace the drive - there are two lasers inside, and it sounds like the DVD laser is OK but the CD laser is faulty.
What is the exact Packard Bell EasyNote model?
