CMOS Problems

Media Detection Failure; Check Cable
Okay, when I boot up my computer it goes to this screen that says
"Primary Hard Disk 0- Failure
Primary Hard Disk 1- Failure
Secondary Hard Disk 0- Failure
Secondary Hard Disk 1- Failure"
Then, after resetting the BIOS for the computer I started it back up and it proceeded in giving me the message;
"Media Detection Failure; Check Cable"
I went in and opened the system and checked all the connections on the inside to the motherboard as well as the hard drive. Everything was connected as it was supposed to be-so I rebooted again and it gave me the same message.
I've been told that it's probably the battery on the motherboard...but I put a new battery in and it came up with the same thing.
Thank you.

When I boot up I get the message "CMOS display type wrong." After reading around, many people said that it was probably the battery. So I replaced the battery and rebooted the computer. I got the messages, "CMOS Date and Time Wrong" and "CMOS display type wrong", so I set the date and 'restored the default CMOS settings'. After doing that I rebooted and it still came up.
It will let me press delete and get into a setup screen, but i'm unsure of what really to do from there.

Is this a new problem? Was this board/system working OK previously?
What is the make and model of the motherboard and or computer?
This scan will show the board but please add if it is a retail computer brand such as Dell Dimension 1234 for example.

Flashing your BIOS is probably in order but you need to find the precise BIOS for your board.

Dell Dimension 4400
Pentium 4
BIOS A06
Yes, this is a new problem. The board seems to be working properly and everything is connected how it should be.
To use that scan will I have to do the scan on the problemed computer because I can't even get past the main screen because of the errors..

Well, all of the CMOS errors were fixed but now when I reboot I get a black screen with no desktop icons or menu bar. We can pull up task manager, but the explorer.exe file under the processes tab isn't there. Nothing shows in Safe mode either; black background, no icons. Just the words "Safe Mode" on the corners.

Can you start explorer.exe from the Task Manager? (File > New Task/Run)
Is this XP? Do you have your CD?
-
No, it won't start up that way.
It's Windows XP Pro
I do have my CD, we tried to just reinstall windows but for some reason it's not getting past a certain point on the disk. There are no scratches on the disk itself..

What point? What exactly happens? Is it a Dell Recovery Disk?
