problem with laptop - music playback

    Hi
My laptop has a problem when playing audio/mp3 files. The sound stutters frequently (actually sounds like a burp). Im have xp and am using medial player 10. Would this be caused by the low quality onboard sound device and would an alternative sound device cure the problem.
    laptop details
    ibm thinkpad
    p3 1133mhz
    248mb ram

    Thanks
    Dave

Is this problem on a different system to your other thread about sound problems?

Your Pentium III Thinkpad has 256Mb RAM and 8Mb of that is allocated to the on-board graphics card. That's not a great spec in performance terms for running Windows XP Service Pack 2 but it shouldn't stutter when playing audio. Does it happen even when Media Player is the only application running?

Is the C:\ drive very full? Just wondering if it's having trouble finding contiguous disk space for temporary files if the free space on the hard disk is fragmented.

    Thanks for the reply DJ
Yes its a different thing all together.
The hard drive is relatively empty, only xp, office and other basic software and yes it does it when only media player is running. The problems are most apparent when using mp3 files either from hard drive or cd. I ripped the files from audio cd's using mp10 and checked to see if there was an issue with the files. The files play perfectly on other machines. When playing audio cd's i cant actually recall hearing any problem at all.
