    Re: imminent hard drive failure

Hi...i have a compaq computer and windows xp about 2 days ago I bought a 5 in 1 antivirus, antispam, anti adware firewall and after installing all of them, I was recommended by the antivirus to do a scan of the whole computer. It took about 12 hours to do so i left the computer on and I left the room. When I got back, the computer said this -SMART Hard Drive detects imminent failure but then it also said I can put in my boot cd (for windows XP) to repair it. How do I go about doing that...I've tried putting windows xp in and I gotten pretty far with trying to repair it but i've gotten to a point i'm stuck. please do let me nkow what to do...cactusayo1@yahoo.com

Who is the manufacturer of the drive? You can find a floppy boot diagnostic from them.

Here is a general list of the major brands:

You should verify that the drive is OK before trying to reinstall XP.

Just curious: did your anti virus post the SMART warning? It actually said to insert the XP disk?

Do you remember the message verbatim?

Also when you say "gotten pretty far with trying to repair it but i've gotten to a point i'm stuck"

What exactly were you doing and how did it stick?

Were you reinstalling XP? Clean? Repair/Upgrade?

What exactly happened and where did it fail?

Again verifying the integrity of the hard drive would take precedent.
