    Compaq DVD-115 won't read InCD files

    Hi all,

    I have a custom built computer:
    Win XP; 1.7G; 256Mb RAM; GigaByte motherboard;
    Mitsumi CD burner; Compaq DVD-115 ROM;

    Using Nero, InCD & EasyWrite for burning disks.

    I switched a Compaq DVD-115 from a Presario to the custom
    built unit.

    It will READ commercially made CDs fine (and if I were to get
    a DVD decoder, it would read DVDs fine also), but it will not
    read the InCD packet written files, at all.

    I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling;
    removed the drive, reboot, shutdown, reinstall the drive etc.
    XP always recognizes the drive, and says it is working properly,
    but still, it won't read those InCD files.

    I tried installing the Adaptec Easy CD Creator, and DirectCD
    that came with the Presario, but it won't work. In fact the XP
    says it's too old and won't even let the DirectCD program run.

    This drive is from a Presario that is approaching 5 years old.
    Is it possible that it is physically incapable of reading this type of file?

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you.

    InCD has been around longer than the DVD drive. In the early days, the only compatibility problems were due to earlier operating systems (Windows 95 / NT4) not supporting them but Windows XP does have packet CD support.

    After you've finished copying files to the disc, is there an option to right-click the drive letter in Windows Explorer and write the files to the CD? I think that Windows XP rather annoyingly just caches them so that the CD actually has nothing on it until you tell it to complete the writing process. Alternatively, if there's an option to "close" the disc, try doing that.

    Let us know if that helps

    DJNafey,

    Thanks, and yes, your comments and observations are correct. However...

    My difficulty is in the area of wanting the DVD/CD ROM to READ packet written disks, which it doesn't do, at all...so far.

    I am not having difficulty with the ability to directly access the drive from, say, WORD, through a drive letter and SAVE my files as per need, but, when I want to use that same disk in the ROM drive in order to COPY or something, it won't read them.

    Then I begin to wonder if this functionability is simply not available for this particular species and age of drive.

    I don't know if I have clarified my concerns any but I hope so.

    Any further help would sure be appreciated.
