lite-on DVD+/-RW
hi, my fairly new cd/dvd rw drive copies onto cd-r but not cd-rw, i have tried on windows explorer (drag n drop and then click write these files to cd), nero (photo slideshow on SVCD) and WMP all these do everything normal and says its completed and when i put the disk back in, it says its empty and the auto-start option comes up saying "what do you want to do" and there is a list; burn files using windows explorer, copy cd using nero........... and so on
There dont seem to be any drivers for it, the only driver on the disk is for the external usb drive (for win 95)
Could someone please help?
Thanks,
Mike

did you install the UDF drivers?
-
what UDF drivers?
the only disk i got with it was the nero one which had 1 driver (for the win 95 usb external drive)
The full make + model is: LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-1635S
i have just downloaded this firmware: http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driv...s-firmware-0w/
i'll see if it works now..
Thanks for the reply,

RWs require a Universal data Format drivers (UDF) to be read. R's do not because they are burned to an ISO format. I have had a Lite-on CD-R/RW and now a Plextor DVD+/-R/RW and have had Nero and Roxio software burners as well as Deep burner, Burn4free and other 3rd party burning software. All required UDF drivers from either Roxio or Nero to read the RW media.
If you use Roxio UDF, then you must use that one for every RW write to read it later, if you use Nero's UDF, same thing, must use Nero from there on.

so, on nero, do i need to click in date: make UDF dvd?
cant i use WMP? i had no problems with rw's with the old drive on anything.
Thanks,
Mike

You need to install the UDF drivers onto the system. Nero uses InCD as its UDF, roxio has a seperate program, InstallUDF.

found it
thanks for the help, when i install this, will i be able to use anything to copy on to RW's?
Thanks for the help

Yes. Xp has the Himat protocol that allows Explorer to write onto RWs while the UDF driver is installed.
