    Monitor problem

I'm having problems with my Dell 1702 monitor. When I switch on the computer the system boots up fine but the monitor doesn't seem to want to come to life beyond the three flashing lights. However, when it is good and ready (which can be anything from half an hour to an entire day) it springs to life of its own accord. Can anyone help? I've checked connections and another monitor works fine on the system.

    Hello, and Welcome to DAL.

It appears you may have answered your own question. If another monitor works fine, there's something going bad in the DELL monitor. It could be anything from a flakey power supply to a cold solder joint.

Have you tried the DELL monitor on another system with the same (problem) results?

Please post back with your results so others reading this topic know where the situation lies. Also post back with any further questions.

    Dan,
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time and the trouble to respond to my problem. I tried to take the monitor to a computer repair place and they said I ought to buy a new monitor, which isn't possible at the moment. I'm now unable to switch off my system in case it doesn't work when I switch it on, which is not ideal. If you have any further ideas I'd be glad to hear them. I can't try the monitor on another system as I don't have one but feel fairly certain that it would behave the way it is at the moment. It is so annoying to have to discard it for what might be a minor fault. But thanks anyway!
