Do you absolutly NEED Windows XP SP2 to get USB 2.0 to work? Is there anyway I can get it to work without upgrading to SP2?

No, USB 2.0 does not require Service Pack 2 to be installed onto XP. A standard Windows XP install supports USB 2.0. If your PC does not, you might be missing some drivers.
