sound problem - quits working after 1 hour
I'm having a problem with my computer's sound.
I have gone through the xp troubleshooting, and none of the walkthroughs worked.
I have also tried replacing the speakers, uninstalling and reinstalling the sound drivers, rebooting....
What happens is, when I turn my computer on, and it boots up, the sound works great.
After about 1 hour, it fizzles out, and sounds kind of like a radio losing a signal... it gets static sounding, and then it just quits altogether.
If I restart, it doesn't work.
But if I turn the computer off and let it sit for a while, it works again.
For an hour.
Same problem as before.
I would appreciate it if anyone has any idea what could be wrong.
In case it matters, I have an amd duron 1ghz processor, 256ddr, and im using on-board sound that came with the motherboard.
Should I get a new sound card? I don't want to waste money on that if it's not probable that it will fix the problem.
thanks for any help, if anyone has any to offer.

I am not sure whether this will solve your roblem but you may give it a try.
Double click on your volume control in the taskbar.
There will be a 'Line In' and 'Wave In' Balance.Try minimising the value and observe if you get rid of the problem.

Get a new sound card. Almost certainly the problem.
