Have an older Compaq 5000 series that is having a video problem. Computer boots up ok. Moniter comes on with a message asking if the cable is connected (it is). Cable is ok, pins are ok. I had a problem once before where the video did not work. Shut down and re-booted everything was fine. Now I've got nothing. Moniter ok. Video card problem or other issues? Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

If your display adapter is an actual "card' (not onboard video) have you tried pulling it and reseating it? If it's PCI you can try another PCI slot as well. This helps clean any tarnish from the card/slot connector contacts.

Do you have another (old) video card you can try?
