Nvidia Graphics Card problem

Re: Nvidia Graphics Card problem
If it is not working now you shouldn't use it. But it could also be the reason that the card perhaps burnt out.
Can you test this card in another computer? I would be strongly inclined to think the card is gone.
Did you try cleaning the fan? Lubricate? Will it spin at all by your touch?

To Jephree,
I managed to get the PC working with the GeForce FX 5700 (by pressing the monitor 'on' button exactly 2 and a half secs after turning the computer on, like I said I could earlier.) Windows XP first thought a new VGA hardware had been added, but a few seconds later noted that the 5700 was new hardware added (remember, this was the first time I had the computer working with the 5700 in since I updated the drivers. So, the computer was working with the GeForce 5700 FX in it, and was displaying on the monitor, albeit, after I used a very awkward method of turning the computer on.
While the computer was on I kept my eye on the fan attached to the graphics card and found that it did not spin throughout the whole time I turned my computer on, checked that the graphics card was recognised by the computer, and turned the computer off.
Also, for a moment, when I was checking the Control Panel, the screen went black, and then the Adaptor section in Display>Advanced only recognised the VGA controller. However, a moment later it again recognised that the GeForce FX 5700 was attached, and I was able to look at information on the card. According to the computer the graphics card was running perfectly without any problems. It seems then, that it wasn't able to recognise that the fan wasn't spinning. (Question: would the fan always be spinning, or would it only kick in when using graphically demanding programs, such as video games?)
Also, the fan isn't stuck, I can turn it with a piece of plastic. There is no build up of dust on the fan because it faces downwards from the card.

Glad it is working! I had forgotten about the switch on behavior.
I can find no info on the fan behavior.
I did find a BIOS for the card that might be worth trying. Just verify your exact model before trying. (Plus other links I've been searching).

Okay, under the first link I found the exact model. I have the GV-N57256V. Unfortunately it says that the BIOS is 'coming soon.' Apart from that they do have a driver for it, which seems to be different from the generic nvidia driver. Due to its size and my 56k internet connection (which cuts out every 2 hours) I will probably need to get a friend to download it for me. So maybe I could do it tonight, or get it done by tomorrow. If I get it, I'll do a complete uninstall and drive clean again, and post the result.
thanks again Jephree, I really do appreciate that you are helping me solve a problem that was driving me crazy.

Update:
I managed to download the Giga-Byte specific driver for my card and installed it (of course, I followed all rules for a good installation.) The first two times I tried to install the new driver the computer closed down as it came to the end of installation, but on the third attempt it worked. After the second attempt when I turned Windows on it went into 'disk check' but the PC seemed fine and came back on with no problems. I managed to get the GeForce FX 5700 to come on when driver was installed and for a moment I thought I had fixed the problem, but when I turned off and tried to boot again then the problem with the monitor not coming on persisted. Also, the fan on the card was not on during all the time that the GeForce FX 5700 was on.
I checked in the System>Hardware section for Properties of the GeForce FX 5700 and it said that the card was working without any problems. The computer also recognised the model of the monitor that I am using (hp pavilion mx70). In fact, there is a tab under Display>Settings>Advanced where it shows both 'GeForce FX 5700' and the 'hp pavilion mx70' at the top of the tab.
So, the problem still persists.

To Jephree,
for a number of reasons I haven't been able to try out my graphics card on another computer so I just left the problem. However, I had a Windows XP upgrade a couple of days back, and since I thought that the problem started after having received a Windows upgrade, I decided to try the graphics card in my computer again to see if the problem had been fixed. It hadn't.
But I decided to boot it up the special way I told you I could, so that the card would turn on. The monitor came on, and inspired by a notice in the graphics cards handbook, I went into Windows safemode. When in safemode the computer took a while to load up information about the new hardware and then asked me to restart the computer. I did so, and although the restart failed to complete, when I turned the computer off normally and then restarted it, the graphics card was coming on without any special sequence at start-up.
I have tested starting up my computer in a number of ways now (monitor first, then computer; computer first, then monitor; computer and monitor together; and computer first, waiting until I heard Windows load, then monitor) and the graphics card seems to show a display with no problems.
The only problem still left might be that the fan on the graphics card doesn't appear to start-up along with the computer, but I'm not sure that it works like that anyway.
I think Gigabyte have their own forums for technical issues, so I shall move onto those boards to try and get an answer to this problem. I guess, as far as you are concerned, this problem should be considered over.
Thanks for all the help you gave me when I was trying to solve this problem Jephree. It was much appreciated,
sincerely,
James
