    Problems - Help please!

I've had nothing but problems with my PC for the last month. Firstly the computer won't boot up properly into windows most of the time, it usually asks me whether I want to go into safe mode, start windows normally or use the last good configuration. Safe mode doesn't work at all and when I select either of the other 2 the computer then restarts itself and asks me the same question again. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 goes before I can get through to Windows XP. The times when it does get through straight away are just flukes because I do nothing different.

Secondly my computer used to boot up as soon as I switched it on at the wall, now when I do that the monitor turns on but the computer needs switching on by pressing the push button on the tower unit. This happened a week or 2 after the 1st problem... but are the 2 problems related???

Its looking like something is knackered in my computer, anyone got any idea what that something might be???

When you've finished using the PC, do you go to Start Menu > Shut Down .... and then wait for it to run the shutdown sequence and switch itself off automatically ...... or do you just switch the power off at the wall when you don't need to use it any more? Sounds like you could have a worn out power supply or hard disk.

When I'm shutting down my computer I go to Start Menu > Shut Down and then wait for my computer to run the shutdown sequence and switch itself off automatically. Then once its shut itself down I turn it off at the wall.

I know better than to switch my computer off while its still running!

Mght be related to the BIOS setting that some computers have where it stipulates whether the computer will remain off after a 'power failure' or whether it will switch itself back on as soon as the mains power becomes available again or whether it will remember whether it was on or off that last time that the mains power was cut.

Switch on your PC and press Delete and F2 repeatedly every second to go into the BIOS. Then use the cursor keys (in most BIOSes) to scroll around and press Enter to go into each menu and see if you can find that setting on your system.

As C0oLI2iCeF0o said, disconnecting or removing everything inside (including the motherboard and battery) would set the BIOS back to the 'factory default' settings which may also resolve the issue.
