Hi all,
We've got a Multivision laptop with a CD-R/RW and DVD-ROM mix. Recently, the computer has stopped recognising the drive, it does not appear on My Computer and does not appear in the Device Manager. According to the owner, the drive used to be visible but suddenly disappeared. Although the drive is no longer visible, there is still power running to the drive. When a disc is inserted, the drive reads the disc, but nothing else happens - nothing.
Does anyone have the slightest idea of what's happened here? We really need to get this problem fixed as soon as possible as the owner needs the computer for study.
Thanks for your help in advance,
Tears..
What is the Operating System? XP? Is the drive removable?
Perhaps try a System Restore? Does the BIOS recognize the drive?
I found this Yahoo Group for MV (perhaps it is worth a join and search):
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/MVHELP/This group was set up after Multivision Computers ceased trading, leaving many frustrated customers without any support for their computers.
Yeah, the operating system is XP and the drive is internal. We've tried a system restore and that did absolutly nothing.
So your guess is that the bios isnt recognising the drive? How do i check this?
check the boot system to make sure the drive is actually booting. Enter bios, go to advanced startup options and click on (actually highlight with the arrow keys then oush enter) boot sequence. If the Boot sequence contains the drive letter A: (or floppy) then it shuld work and maybe the drive has just died. If not, make sure that the drive is actually in the boot sequence.
There is a key to enter the BIOS setup. It varies between computers. To check for sure you might join the Yahoo group and search or ask.Originally Posted by Tears of The Dragon
Many use the Delete key; some F2 or perhaps F10; some Esc
Anyway by pressing one of those keys repeatedly after powering on should bring up the BIOS setup.
Look for a Drives tab and see if the DVD/CD is listed.
