DELL Inspiron 5100 display not coming on LCD screen
Since my laptop was shutting down because of overheating I decided to open it to perform dust clean-up near the fan and heat sink area. After re-assembling my laptop boots but the LCD screen is not displaying anything. I connected my Desktop monitor to the o/p provided at the back of the laptop and I can see the display on my desktop monitor but for some reason the display is not coming on my LCS screen. I made sure that Esc / Suspend key is not stuck on my keyboard. I would appreciate if anyone can suggest what might have gone wrong.

Perhaps you bumped a connection?
These usually are near one of the hinge areas.
I would open it back up and check the connections to the board.
You could check the Device Manager to see if the screen is even detected: Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc

On page 110 of the manual are instructions for the keyboard removal.

Hi jephree:
After running the devmgmt.msc the information is displayed in the attached document. I can't tell whether the screen is detected. Can you please help? I haven't opened my Laptop yet.
Thanks,

On my Insp.8200, I have a CRT attached due to my panel has failed. I have the Default and Pnp monitor as well as the actual 17in monitor I have attached. Before this it was just Default.
On most Insp/Lat Dell laptops, the flat cables are pressfit into their connectors. This are tiny friction style fittings. Its usually white with a small movable top that the cable fits through.
If you are not very experienced at opening and closing these laptops, it is easy to by accident pull on the flex cable to the LCD inverter and pull it out of the press fitting. I have rebuilt Dell Latitudes and Insprions for several years (Started rebuilding them as a means to learn how to support them when I was a Dell TS Phone technician!) I would do what Jephree has suggested and re-open the top/bottom plastics and double check the LCD flex cable. It may actually be pulled just a little bit out without your even noticing it.

Tried debugging as per your instructions but no success. I must have blown up some connection. How much will it cost me to replace the LCD Inverter?
