    Dell Printer Cartridges

Ever since I've refilled the Dell 922 cartridges they work perfectly, but the Dell printer s/w continues to report that both the black and colour cartridges are completely empty. Each time I use the printer suggest I to contact their supplies department to purchase new ones.
Is there some way of resetting the indicators to full so that I can get an indication of ink usage?
..........or has Dell fiendishly locked this up so that I have to purchaes a new Dell cartridge at an exorbitant price?

Blame Lexmark, they created the chip that is reporting the cartridge as empty, Dell just buys the equipment from Lexmark with the Dell badge on it.

An no, there is not a way yet that hasnt been blocked by legal teams from Lexmark.

Blaming Lexmark seems to be a bit of a cop-out! Who controls the specificaton of the firmware?
If it is the case then it would appear to be a highly restrictive way of marketing the products, enabling a company to capitalise on their restrictive practices and charge what is a very excessively marked up price for 20ml of fluid.
Surely the supply of replacement cartridges is the hidden but very profitable price hike that needs to be highlighted when purchasing a printer.
It's ludicrous that he sale price of the complete printer is just the same as the cost of one set of replacement cartridges, which are usually included in the original sale price anyway!! Un autre rip-off!!

Lexmark controls the firmware. May seem to be a cop-out, but its a fact of life. HP, Lexmark, Sharp, Epson, Et Al are designing cartridges with smartware to prevent the refill of ink/toner cartridges. They all sell the printer at a loss because the supplies market is the boon!

Here in the States its a very well known fact that the money is in the cartridges, not the printers. DMCA challenges are all over the place here for attempted reverse-engineering the ink cartridge software. When you open a box of ink, you will get a little scrap of paper that tells you that you can not trade the cartridge in to a thirdparty recycler unless that company is certified by that manufacturer. The reason is the refill market. HP is losing money in PCs and Servers but raking it in on the supply market for its printers.

Both Epson and Lexmark are in a court fight with individuals who attempted to reverse engineer the firmware on the newer ink cartridges so that when the ink is refilled then a program on the computer can reset the chip on the cartridge.

I have a few friends here in the states who buy a new printer everytime they run out of ink for this very reason.
