Is the sound (and ports) on board or did you add a PCI card?

If the former what is the make & model of the board? If the latter what is the make & model of the card?

Did you check everything under the Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices ?

    Also perhaps:

its onboard ports, the motherboard is a gigabyte one and it comes with Realtek HD audio hardware, weve tried everything looking on the internet, troubleshooting, could any of the above be caused by the fact tht you need a High Defintion mic and pair of headphones, but when i go to control panel sudio/speech and then click voice and test hardware and i test my mic i hav to get rite up close b4 anythin comes out, ok thts no prob, but then the next screen comes up where u can hear wat is goin into the headphones if i jst tapp the mic lightly a feedback loop occurs, and also as i said above wat ever comes through my mic is heard through my headphones this is frustratin the hell out of the both of us!

What is the gigabyte model #? What is the headset model & #? Perhaps the specs would have some clue. I would suspect a possible compatibility issue. Do you have another headset to try? Is it a single plug or how is it connected to the board?
