    Exclamation Computer won’t detect my hard drive.

    Hello everyone on this helpful forum. I still have this same problem. When I try booting up my computer the bios only detects one of my DVD-ROM drives and not my hard drive. When I disconnect both of my DVD-ROM (DVD-RW) drives the computer then picks up the hard drive. I have tried everything to sort this problem out…

    I have been in the bios and tried auto detect and manually. I have also changed jumper setting and tried new data cables. I have since taken my motherboard back the shop and they replaced it for a new board which is the same as the previous one I had. I have changed memory, fitted a new power supply. Tried a spare hard drive!!! It’s so frustrating... I am wondering now if it has anything to do with my CPU, Celeron 2.00GHZ which I took from a previous computer of mine. “BUT the computer works great with out the DVD-ROM’s”.

    What comes up in the post screen is: "Verifying DMI pool data... Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter".

    How strange that this problem is still persisting after you've tried all that. I can confirm that it's nothing to do with the processor. Have you tried it with the hard disk on the primary IDE cable and the jumper set to Master and one DVD drive on the secondary IDE cable with the jumper set to Master? Does it work OK if you only have one DVD drive rather than two?

    here is a stretch, have you tried different power connectors? Are any power connectors shared amongst the 3 drives? i.e. 1 power line going to 3 drives?

    ???? It would help to have the answer to this. Which leads me to....

    The hard disk is a Western Digital. Is the jumper set as Master With Slave? Or at the factory default of Master?

    When you get;

    "Verifying DMI pool data... Disk boot failure, Insert system disk and press enter".

    where is the second DVD located? (I'm assuming the boot hard disk is on IDE 0 Master.) Or is the above scenario with only one DVD as DJNafey asked?

    "... both of my DVD-ROM (DVD-RW) drives ..."

    Two burners. A number of burners like to be set as Master on a channel. If you have two burners, I think this may be part of the problem. Some optical drives don't like to be on the same channel as another optical drive. Jumpers set correctly or not. If one of these is the "slave" on channel 0, it may refuse to work if it falls into this catagory. Or if the WD jumper is wrong.

    Does the manual/documentation for the burner(s) state that it should be set as a Master?
    Are both burners the same make and model?
