    Power on fails

    Hi,

I have a 2 year old Dell 4600 (XP Pro, 2.8 P4, 256mB RAM, on-board video) which all of a sudden won't power on. Absolutely nothing happens - no fans, no beeps, nothing at all. The motherboard has a small green light permanently on. Have removed and replaced power connectors and memory cards, then removed the only PCI card and disconnected the hard drive, CD, floppy and just tried to power the motherboard with the 10 pin and 4 pin connectors. Still nothing at all.

Dell say it is the power supply gone and offered to supply another for £85. Before I do this (or more likely try to get one cheaper elsewhere) does anyone think it could be something else?

    Thanks

    Hi and welcome to D-A-L

more than likely it is your PSU.. I'm not sure if a standard ATX PSU will fit as they may have some silly connections. I'll google around

Many thanks. It was the PSU. Tried a replacement and up and running smooth as ever. Wouldn't have guessed a Dell 2yr old PSU would have failed, but there you go.
