I need to update my bios as the system clock and date resets itself , this is the only info I could get doing a system check BIOS:

Do you know the make & model of the computer? Or is it custom built?

Also the clock issue could possibly just be the battery. Is the computer very old?

it is a custom built computer given to me by a friend, as far as I can tell it is a p2 the motherboard as far as I can see is a pc100 BXcel, the info given in original post was from the d-a-l scan. yes the computer is very old. sorry it took so long to reply was cut off from internet as I am on dial up.

This BIOS is the same date as yours. Release Date 19981020

As far as I see that was the final release. You can reload it if you think that might help. I would replace the battery first.

do I need to take the battery out for 30 seconds then replace it before updating or buy a new battery?

I would suggest a new battery. This may be all you need for the clock issue.

Do you have other BIOS problems? That link is not an update as you have the same BIOS.

Just if you think your BIOS is somehow corrupt you could reload the same version.
