I have just swapped out my mobo for a foxconn NF4K8AC with Athlon64 3000+ cpu and geforce 6600GT 128MB PCI-E graphics card. The graphics card, cpu and mainboard fans spin up as do the CD/DVD drives and harddrive but the system simply emits a series of single prolonged beeps. I have swapped out the RAM in all the various slot combinations. I am using my old PSU which is rated at a lowly 300W and has only a 20pin connector which the manual advises against. So my questions are:
i) should I buy a new PSU and if so should I buy the highest power rating I can afford ?(Also, why do the prices of PSUs rated at the same power vary so much and is it worth paying the higher price ?)
ii) should I buy new RAM as my current PC2100 RAM is supposed to be compatible according to the manual but it touts itself as DDR 400 compatible board ?
iii)should I get the system checked out at considerable cost ?
Many thanks for any advice,

i would start with a psu atleast 500 watts for a pci-e graphics card and modern mobo
ram should be ok for now save your money and buy the psu
hope this helps
