Instaiing New graphics card when old conneciton is broken

Hello, a friend of mine broke the video connecion built into the mother board on moving his PC and the picture does not come up on the screen. I got a new PCI Graphic card for this PC but the problem is that since I can't see anything on the screen (due to to the fact that the PC is still looking for the old mother board video connection) I can't install the new graphics card. Is there any simple way around this.

The only thing I can think of it to take out the hard drive, install it onto another PC with a similar motherboard and then do the installation from there. When I put the pieces back into my friends PC I guess it should work??

Most motherboards will auto-detect add-on graphics cards. You should get basic graphics unless there was further damage to the board @ the old port.

If you know the specific motherboard we could confirm this. I just helped another poster with the same issue & the Intel chipset on the board stated that auto-detect should apply.

I am not sure that loading the drivers off of the board would work but certainly worth a try.
