MY pc will not burn photos anymore

    Hi

I would be very grateful if anyone could give me some advice. Please excuse me if I have made any mistakes, I am new to forums and I hope I have posted this correctly

My O/S is Windows XP Home Edition.

Since I updated my Creative Zen Micro Program for my mp3 player (or at least I think this is when the problem occured) I have not been able to burn any photos to a cd. I can still burn music and read cd's, just not burn photos.

Everythings appears as 'normal' - I get the copying screen with the 'folder' graphic flying from the source the destination drive. But it never progresses further than this. I can not shut windows down the correct way as I get a message which says the copying is still taking place. I have to end up switching the power button off on my hard drive.

I have tried to restore my system back to a date prior to the updating I did but this has not helped, nor did removing the Creative programs completely.

    Please can someone help?

    Many thanks

    Nicky

Are you using the XP CD burning wizard or a third party program?

Also do you have a retail Microsoft XP CD or was XP pre-installed (OEM) on your computer?

I have tried using the XP burning wizard (where after you have selected your photos you can click on 'copy to cd' in the options on the left hand side of the windows screen) and have also tried using Pinnacle - neither work.

XP was pre-installed on my computer when I purchased it.

I have since discovered that the recording tab is missing from the properties of my cd-rw drive, can this be the problem?

I have looked on the Microsoft website for help and tried to follow the instructions to reinstate the tab, however, I discovered in the registry editor that the drive was already showing the value '2' - for a cd-rw so this did not help at all.

Go to the Device Manager Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc and expand (click +) the DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right click on your device and choose uninstall. Reboot the computer and XP will reinstall the drive. This may clear up your issues.

Thank you for this, it half worked! I can now burn photos using my Pinnacle software but still cannot use the Windows XP option 'copy to cd'. I also noticed I have 3 removable storage drives? D: (my DVD-ROM), E: (my CD-RW, the one which is not working properly) and F: (which I am not sure what this drive is as I only have two drawers on the front of my tower!!). I just tried uninstalling the E: drive but the recording tab was still missing. I ended up uninstalling all the drives to see if this would solve the issue, it reinstated all 3 drives but still no recording tab on drive E: As Pinnacle is working I hope I am correct in assuming this must now just be a Windows problem. I am wondering whether I should have another look at the Windows website to see if I can download something from them. If you have any further ideas I'd gladly give them a go but thanks again, at least I can use the Pinnacle software to copy and backup my photos!

    One setting to check is:

Go to Start/Admin Tools/Services. Scroll down to IMAPI CD Burning and ensure that it is set to Automatic and Started.

That being said: third party burning programs more often than not over-rule the XP burner.

Seeing that you have Pinnacle is there a specific need for the XP tool?

I tried changing the settings you have suggested but Windows 'copy to cd' will still not work!! However, last night I was able to finish copying all my photos onto cds using the Pinnacle program, I am very pleased!!! I think I will leave things as they are and just use Pinnacle in future. Thank you so much for all your help, it is very much appreciated.
