I have a gigabyte GA-71XE4 mobo with 128MB ram, adding a 256MB ram card causes windows not to load. The memory expansion slots are ok as the existing 128MB card can be inserted in any slot and runs ok. I have tried different 256MB cards with same difficulty. BIOS is upgraded to latest version and there no other operating problems - suggestions would be appreciated - thanks.

Further development - I have substituted the 256MB card for 2x128MB cards and the system now works, however, the system only works with the cards in one particular order in the memory slots. I suspect there was a timing problem with the 256MB memory cards and the position sensitivity of the 128MB cards results from different delays along the board or signal reflections. The system is now workable, if on the edge, thanks to all who looked at this problem. Malcolm.
