It worked well with the WAB files and I now have my email addresses back.
I have found the DBX files and copied them to a folder on my new desktop but when I open my Outlook express and go to Tools > Options, I am unsure what to do next?
Any pointers?

Hi Ian,

I didn't explain further as the instructions vary between different versions of Outlook Express but, to take my laptop running Outlook Express for Windows XP SP2 as an example, I would go to Tools > Options > Maintenance, click on the Store Folder button and then click the Change button. Select the folder that you've put the DBX files into and click OK. Outlook Express will detect that there is already a "store" in that folder and it will ask you whether you want to keep the existing files or overwrite the files in that folder with a blank store. Make sure you choose the option to connect to the existing store, not to create a new one!
