    mat****a dvd-ram drive is not accessible

    PLEASE HELP.I have Toshiba satellit m40 and my dvd\rw combo drive stoped working two months ago. It can read only DVDs and when I insert CD Then I have an error messege d:\ is not accessible the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. Please! someone help me, I tried everything,I've download the new driver,the region is fine,etc.I have important data on my cds.

    Thank you for your reply but still nothing, still the same error. I want to uninstall the drive and then install it again but I am afraid not to lose the whole drive. I don’t know what to do…it driving me crazy..

    Go to the Device Manager: Start/Run/ devmgmt.msc

    Click the + next to DVD/CD-ROM drives

    Right click on the line Matsh|ta DVD etc. & click Uninstall. Then yes yes & OK etc.

    Then reboot the computer. XP loads its' own drivers for Optical drives.

    You will see New Hardware ... just follow the prompts to install it.

    I uninstalled & installed the driver but now I have different error "Windows cannot read from disc. The disc might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows”. I have used this disk before the problem occurred and it was ok..once again, this is only happening when I have CD in my drive, its working fine with DVDs.
    Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate that.
