Scroll bar pops back up to top
My Dad can pull his scroll bar down to the bottom and it immediately pops back to the top. He lives 400 miles from me, but via phone I have gone over everything I can think of that could be causing this.
He has rebooted, unplugged the mouse, and cleaned the mouse (it's not an optical mouse).
He has a year old Dell desktop with Win XP Home.
Thanks for any assistance.

Hi,
Does it happen in all applications or just in an internet browser?
-
[B] just reinstall windows tht should fix it
-
-
It happens in all applications. I verified it first by getting him to open Windows Explorer. He had complained he couldn't scroll down to read his email in Outlook Express. He's 71 and a bit computer-challenged, so it's kinda rough trying to troubleshoot via the phone.
Was that a serious suggestion to "just reinstall windows"?

He must definitely have some spamware or something. Last night he ran a complete virus scan and nothing showed up. Today just turning on his computer, IE comes on trying to contact to the internet and "he says" flashing a thousand times a minute. Also several folders are opening, including something about a new theme.
I had him run Adaware 6 but I don't know what to tell him to get rid of. He did say during the scan one of the little red bug thingies popped up. He's about to drive me crazy, LOL.
What information can I furnish here that would let someone know what to tell him to get rid of, from the scan?

Someone? Please answer!! Thanks so much.

Hey,
Sorry for the delay its manic here!
OK get him to run Adware again, heres a few guides to help talk him through ..http://www.d-a-l.com/remove-adware.html
The download and run Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/
Then..finally download, run, scan and post a log from HijackThis - http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html
These apps are fairly straight forward to run but it is always going to be a little tricky trying to do this over the phone! Post back with how you get on.

After all of this, he still can't scroll, the moment he tries, it pops right back to the top.
